About Distalove

An iPhone app for couples who live apart, and a blog about making the distance easier.

Distalove shows two people how far apart they are — never where they are. We build it for couples in long distance relationships, so that the person you miss is one glance away on your home screen or lock screen.

Who makes Distalove

Distalove is made by two people: a developer and his wife. Together we build the app, test every feature on our own phones first and decide what to add next. “Distalove Team”, the name that signs the articles on our blog, is the two of us. We are a small, independent project based in Poland; the operator’s details are listed in section 1 of our Privacy Policy.

The app is available on iPhone through the App Store.

Why we built it

The idea came up around Valentine’s Day 2026, and we spent the next half a year shaping it before launching Distalove later that year. We wanted to make something we had not seen anywhere else: a small, personal space that belongs to two people, rather than one more chat thread in a messenger.

Living apart turns ordinary questions into small calculations. Is it too late to call? What is the weather like where they are? How many days until the next visit? Most of the time you do not want to open an app to find out — you just want to feel that the other person is still there.

So Distalove is built around a few things that do exactly that:

  • The distance as one number on home screen and lock screen widgets, with a compass arrow that points your partner’s way.
  • Their local time and weather, so you know whether it is a good moment to call.
  • Days together and a countdown to your next meeting, with milestones worth celebrating.
  • A “thinking of you” ping for the days when you have nothing to say and still want them to know you are there.
  • Notes and finger-drawn doodles, a shared canvas you can draw on together, and games for two.

Distance, never a map

A location app for couples can easily become a tool for keeping tabs on someone. We decided early on that Distalove would not be that. In practice this means:

  • no screen, widget or notification shows your partner’s address, a map or coordinates;
  • we keep no location history — each new position overwrites the previous one;
  • you can pause sharing at any time, and your partner simply sees “updated N hours ago” instead of an alarming alert;
  • there are no ads and no advertising trackers, and we never sell personal data.

How we write the blog

The Distalove blog covers the practical side of long distance relationships: time zones, visits, gifts, communication, trust and the hard stretches in between. These are the rules we hold ourselves to:

  • Numbers come with sources. When an article cites a statistic or a study, we link to the original research or an official page, and we do not round a finding up into something it did not say.
  • Facts are checked before publishing. Prices, shipping rules, time zones and product details change; we verify them against the source at the time of writing.
  • Articles are kept up to date. When something important changes, we revise the article and record the date of the update.
  • We are open about the app. The blog is written by the people who make Distalove, and articles mention it where it genuinely fits. Most advice works without it.
  • Not medical or therapeutic advice. Our articles share general, everyday guidance. They are not a substitute for a doctor, a therapist or a counsellor. If you are dealing with anxiety, depression, abuse or a crisis in your relationship, please talk to a qualified professional or, in an emergency, contact your local emergency services.
