How do we pair?
One partner taps “Create a pair” and gets a six-character code. The other opens the app, taps “I have a code” and types it in. iPhone and Android pair with each other without any difference.
The distance is not updating
Distance refreshes when either phone reports a new position. Check that:
- location permission is set to Always — with “While Using”, the distance only updates while the app is open;
- sharing is not paused in Settings;
- Low Power Mode is off — iOS heavily restricts background updates in it;
- your partner has opened the app at least once since pairing.
By design the app publishes a new position only when you have moved far enough to change the number that is displayed, so small movements at home will not refresh it.
The widget shows old data
Widgets are refreshed by the operating system, not by the app, and iOS decides how often that happens. Opening the app always refreshes them immediately. If a widget stays empty, remove it and add it again from the widget gallery.
I changed phones or reinstalled the app
If you switched on account protection, sign in with your recovery email and the pair, dates and history come back on the new device. Without it, the account lives only on the old device, so a reinstall may require a reconnect code from your partner — the pair’s history and dates are preserved when that succeeds.
How do I stop sharing my location?
Settings → pause sharing. Your partner sees “updated N hours ago” instead of a live number — no alarming notification is sent. To stop completely, revoke the location permission in your device settings or break the pair.
How do I export or delete my data?
Settings → Data → “Export my data” gives you a JSON file with everything we store. “Delete my data” erases your profile, location, push token, pair and messages from our servers, immediately and permanently.
How do I manage my subscription?
On iPhone: Settings app → your name → Subscriptions. On Android: Play Store → Payments and subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google.
Can I see where my partner is?
No, and that is deliberate. Distalove shows distance and direction, never a map or an address. See section 3 of the Privacy Policy for exactly how that works.
